The Cosmetics Counter: Goatboy Soap

My mother-in-law actually discovered this. She has sever eczema and found that the mild soap and lotions produced by Goatboy Soaps really helped. Last year she bought me a few bars and I tried it and it is really great soap. It is especially excellent this time of year when skin gets so dry. My only complaint is that some of the scents are a bit overpowering. The scent doesn't transfer to your skin that strong, but the bar itself tends to be quite aromatic.

If you have very sensitive skin or any skin issue that soap usually irritates, I recommend you give this stuff a try.

The fragrances are strong because many of them are artificial. Read the label: if it says fragrance, it is an artificial fragrance. If it was an all-natural product, it would say natural essential oil. If you want a natural product good for your skin, use something else.

For the record...some of the products say natural essential oils and unscented products are also available.

It is within the law to substitute essential oil FOR fragrance oil, so the consumer never really knows for sure WHICH it is. Just a warning to the consumer that labelling is not always accurate. Essential oils are not ALL good either, some are neurotoxins. Fragrance oils are not ALL bad, and do serve their purpose - so you must pick your poison, so to speak. Many times, a really GOOD perfume oil is less irritating then the essentials, and essentials don't always survive the from scratch -- cold process of soap making. This soap mentioned is your average goat milk soap...nothing particularly fancy. Many of the cheaper goatmilk soaps are made with a water base. If it's a pure-milk base, the soap should look & feel like butter.

Hi - I tried these soaps I bought at the Goshen fair. One burned my skin - it is obviously poorly made and untested. The man selling them wasn't particularly very nice either. There are other much better hand made soaps around. These are to be avoided.
