Words for Wednesday: New York State of Mind

Maybe it is because I am looking forward to my blogger meet-up day in the city on Saturday or maybe it's because I just simply love New York (insert the "I love New York" theme song here), but this song has been in my head lately. Billy Joel's own love for New York comes shining through this song through both the words and the piano.

I always get that riding in a cab up Fifth Avenue on a clear night with a view of the Empire State Building feeling when I hear it.

New York State of Mind
by Billy Joel

Some folks like to get away,
Take a holiday from the neighborhood.
Hop a flight to Miami Beach or to Hollywood.
But I'm takin' a Greyhound on the Hudson River line.
I'm in a New York state of mind.

I've seen all the movie stars in their fancy cars and their limousines.
Been high in the Rockies under the evergreens.
I know what I'm needin', and I don't wanna waste more time.
I'm in a New York state of mind.

It was so easy livin' day by day
Out of touch with the rhythm and blues
But now I need a little give and take
The New York Times, the Daily News.

It comes down to reality, and it's fine with me cause I've let it slide.
I don't care if it's Chinatown or on Riverside.
I don't have any reasons.
I left them all behind.
I'm in a New York state of mind.
Oh yeah.

It was so easy living day by day
Out of touch with the rhythm and blues
But now I need a little give and take
The New York Times, the Daily News.
Who, oh, oh whoa who.

It comes down to reality, and it's fine with me cause I've let it slide.
I don't care if it's Chinatown or on Riverside.
I don't have any reasons.
I left them all behind.
I'm in a New York state of mind.

I'm just taking a Greyhound on the Hudson River line.
Cause I'm in a, I'm in a New York state of mind

This is one of those songs that can get in your head and stay there. Good choice for today. I'm even singing it while listening to Creep!

Great choice to get me in the mood for Saturday (not that I need to be gotten in the mood). I used to listen to this one all the time, long before I lived anywhere near NYC (although, I HAD visited).

Sara -- you're right it does stick in your head, but hopefully not in the annoying way that tv commercials can do.

Emily & Cam -- really looking forward to Saturday!
